‘Mama Nairobi, Nairobi’s Sweetheart’ — Karen Nyamu Reveals All Her Nicknames

Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has acknowledged the many nicknames she has picked up over the course of her political journey.
The politician listed the names she responds to, reflecting her connection with Nairobi and its residents, while noting that there are even more names she has been given over the years.
“They call me Manzi wa Nai, Dem wa Kanairo, Kanairo Babe, Mama Kanairo, Mama Nairobi, Nairobi’s Sweetheart, etc., and I answer to all those names,” Nyamu wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
The nicknames associate her with Nairobi, where the senator, currently serving in a nominated position, is believed to be eyeing an elective seat.
A Vibrant Social Media Presence
Nyamu has blended her personal life with politics on social media, building a sizeable following. Her posts highlight her experiences as a mother, political engagements, and social events.
In December 2025, she shared how a vacation without a nanny helped her discover new sides of her children.
“On vacation with no nanny. I wanted to be the one doing everything for them. The simple joy of carrying your child in a towel after a shower, then oiling and dressing them, picking outfits, and even struggling to match shoes,” Nyamu wrote on Facebook on December 31, 2025.
She described the experience as fulfilling, emphasizing the joy of spending quality time with her children.
“Taking them places and watching them be happy is so fulfilling,” she said.
Nyamu added that the vacation revealed aspects of her children’s personalities that she hadn’t seen before.
“I’ve also noticed new sides of them that I don’t get to see at home,” she shared.
Reflecting on her children individually, Nyamu wrote:
“Tami Tami is hilarious; tunacheka mbavu zinakauka. Teana is so classy and well-mannered; I even asked who taught her because it’s not me. Nimu Naye is super smart, and she is surprising me with how much she knows.”
