Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has reported that a sound truck donated to support the ongoing Linda Mwananchi tour was stoned in Riat, Kisumu County, only hours after it was handed over to his team.
In a statement shared online, Sifuna said unknown individuals threw stones at the vehicle, shattering its front windscreen. The incident occurred as the truck was en route to Kakamega County for the next stop on the tour.
The sound truck had been donated earlier in the day by a supporter who noted it was meant to address sound challenges faced in previous rallies and pledged solidarity with the campaign. Photos shared by Sifuna showed the truck parked by the roadside with visible damage.
Sifuna condemned the attack as an attempt at intimidation but vowed that the tour would continue as planned. “We will not be intimidated. The Linda Mwananchi tour will continue,” he said.
The episode follows a series of disruptions during the grassroots mobilisation campaign, which has faced challenges at previous stops. Supporters online condemned the attack, calling for investigations, while others expressed concern over rising political tensions around public rallies.
Police have not yet confirmed the incident or identified the perpetrators. The sound truck remains crucial for amplifying speeches and mobilising crowds during the Kakamega rally, which continues to draw attention and political debate.
