Boda Boda Riders Torch Super Metro Bus on Thika Road After Fatal Accident

Traffic along Thika Superhighway was on Monday afternoon, September 1, disrupted after a bus belonging to Super Metro Sacco was set ablaze near Juja Town.

The incident occurred after the bus allegedly knocked down and killed a boda boda rider near the Juja City Mall exit. Police said the rider sustained fatal injuries on the spot.

The matatu driver stopped and passengers were seen disembarking as boda boda riders and onlookers gathered. Moments later, the crowd turned rowdy and set the vehicle on fire.

Images and videos from the scene showed the bus engulfed in flames as groups of people watched. The vehicle was destroyed beyond repair.

The motorbike involved in the collision was also badly damaged, with parts scattered on the road.

Police officers who arrived minutes later found the wreckage already gutted.

The rider’s body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, while the bus shell was towed to a local police station. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

“Said to have collided with a boda boda at Juja. Following for more information,” the Motorists Association of Kenya (MAK) confirmed the crash on X in a statement.

It remains unclear whether there were passengers inside the bus at the time of the fire, though no additional injuries were reported.

The incident caused heavy traffic buildup stretching from the Burudani area towards Juja Town.

This is the second time in less than a month that a bus has been torched after being involved in a fatal accident with a rider. On August 7, a mob set ablaze a City Shuttle bus in Donholm following a similar incident.
