Former Harambee Stars captain and CHAN Ambassador Victor Wanyama on Monday accompanied the newly redesigned CHAN trophy, which is under heavy CAF security, as its toured Kenya’s national broadcasters ahead of the finals.

The new trophy, unveiled on August 1 at Dar es Salaam’s Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, features a sleek gold-and-silver design symbolising both prestige and the rising stature of the CHAN tournament.

“The chance to host this CHAN tournament has been a big motivation for the young local players. It has been a success so far, the organisation, the way CAF has arranged everything, and the group was really electric with fans,” Wanyama said.

Although East African hosts Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania bowed out in the quarter-finals, they will each receive $450,000 (Sh58 million) in prize money.

The four semi-finalists will earn Sh77 million each, the third-place finisher Sh90 million, the runners-up Sh155 million and the champions will take home Sh453 million.

The tournament resumes tomorrow after a two-day break, with Madagascar facing Sudan at 5:30 pm at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, followed by Senegal against Morocco at 8:30 pm at Nelson Mandela Stadium, Kampala.

The semi-finals set the stage for a dramatic conclusion to a CHAN edition that celebrates both African football heritage and the continent’s emerging talent.
