An emotional tribute at the funeral of Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho took a political turn when his son, Ian Kiaraho, publicly pledged the family’s loyalty to President William Ruto.
“Dad really loved you. You stood by him from 2013 until the day he rested. We will continue to stand with you and give you support because you have stood with this family. Thank you for that loyalty,” Ian said during the funeral in Tigoni.
The remarks underscored the close personal and political ties between the President and the late legislator, who passed away on March 29 while receiving treatment.
Ian also painted a deeply personal portrait of his father, describing him as a mentor, disciplinarian, and pillar of support. “Yours was a life of remarkable achievement and even greater impact,” he said, noting Kiaraho valued integrity and service over wealth.
He recalled lessons learned through firm guidance, a strong Christian faith, regular church attendance, and a love for hymns such as How Great Thou Art. He also highlighted Kiaraho’s lasting legacy in projects like Mirage in Westlands, a greenhouse along Gong Road, and NextGen along the Nairobi Expressway.
Ian described his father as a devoted family man, whose influence will live on through his children and grandchildren, and vowed to uphold his legacy.
The funeral was attended by President Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and other leaders celebrating Kiaraho’s life.
David Kiaraho, 62, was born on October 2, 1963. A trained architect and University of Nairobi graduate, he entered politics in 2013, winning the Ol Kalou seat on a TNA ticket under the Jubilee coalition, and successfully defended it in 2017.
