The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested and extradited a woman suspected of involvement in a large-scale cannabis trafficking network.

In a statement on X by the DCI, the suspect was apprehended in Uganda and brought to Kenya to face narcotics trafficking charges.

The investigation began on May 18, 2023, when officers at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport intercepted a suspicious shipment at the DHL Cargo Section.

Inside a carton box concealed by 25 shower curtains, authorities recovered 4,186.34 grams of cannabis sativa, a smuggling method aimed at evading customs detection.

Following the seizure, investigators traced the network to a hideout in Uganda.

Working in collaboration with the Office of the Attorney General, Interpol Kenya and Ugandan law enforcement agencies, the DCI initiated Mutual Legal Assistance and extradition procedures under East African Community protocols.

On August 5, 2025, Ugandan authorities arrested the suspect and handed her over to Kenyan officials.

She was arraigned at JKIA Law Courts on August 11 and it is scheduled to appear again on August 25.

In a statement, the DCI emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in combating organized crime.

“Pooling intelligence, legal frameworks and enforcement resources across borders is critical in dismantling trafficking networks and bringing suspects to justice,” DCI stated.
