DCI Recover Suspected Al-Shabaab Combat Uniforms in Eastleigh

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Starehe, spearheaded by the Anti-Terror Police Unit, have recovered a large consignment of suspected Al-Shabaab combat uniforms in an intelligence-led operation in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

In a statement, the DCI said the raid was carried out at the KBS Garage area following intelligence linked to an earlier interception in Dhobley on April 6, 2026.

During the operation, officers recovered 11 bales, each containing 60 full camouflage uniforms and 120 T-shirts, as well as an additional bale with 65 uniforms and 120 T-shirts.

The items were seized from Vision Point Express, where they had been temporarily stored due to limited space at Gaani Parcel Express along 12th Street in Eastleigh.

According to investigators, the consignment had been received by Gaani Parcel Express manager Omar Elmi Issack from an individual identified as Sharif before being moved for storage.

The DCI said the operation was informed by earlier intelligence after Jubaland Security Forces intercepted 25 bales of similar suspected Al-Shabaab uniforms in Dhobley.

“The intercepted consignment had reportedly been destined for a suspect identified as Abdi Hakim, who remains in custody,” the agency stated.

Further investigations led detectives to Safe Link Cargo, a firm based at Soma Towers, believed to have facilitated the importation of a larger batch of 37 bales.

The cargo is reported to have originated from China and entered the country through the Port of Mombasa disguised as consolidated shipments.

Detectives linked an employee at the firm, Abdiftah Aden Muhammed, to the clearance and coordination of the cargo.

They also established connections between Abdiftah, Sharif, and another suspect identified as Abdikadir, forming a key chain in the suspected supply network.

Records indicate the consignment was collected on April 4, 2026, by Sharif before being transported to Eastleigh.

“All recovered items have been secured and documented as exhibits, while several suspects are in custody assisting with investigations,” the DCI said.

The agency added that investigations are ongoing to dismantle the entire network behind the suspected supply chain.
