Self-proclaimed “Ghetto President” Calvince Gaucho has turned a year older, choosing to mark the day in the company of close associates.
On Wednesday, February 4, Gaucho shared photos from his birthday celebration, which took place at Ida Odinga’s office. The images show Mama Ida presenting him with a cake and personally feeding him a piece as they celebrated together.
In his caption, Gaucho described the day as deeply emotional, noting that it was the first birthday he was marking without ODM leader Raila Odinga.
“This is my first birthday without Baba. I am grateful to my mother, Ida Odinga, for the cake and the birthday wishes,” he wrote.
Messages of goodwill quickly poured in from his supporters, who took to the comment section to wish him well.
The celebration comes amid Gaucho’s growing political visibility. In recent remarks, the aspiring politician proposed that Ida Odinga should take a more active leadership role within the Orange Democratic Movement following Raila Odinga’s death.
Gaucho argued that the party is facing a leadership crisis and needs a unifying figure to stabilise it. ODM is currently under the interim leadership of Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga.
According to Gaucho, Ida Odinga commands authority and respect similar to that of her late husband, qualities he said could help restore order within the party.
“After she is done with the funeral, I believe she should lead the party. She will be needed to stabilise it. She has more order compared to Oburu. She has a voice and authority,” Gaucho said.
He further claimed that Ida could inherit Raila Odinga’s political strongholds and play a decisive role in the 2027 General Election, particularly in Nyanza, Western, Coast and Nairobi regions.
“Mama is a force to reckon with. She will influence the elections in regions Raila controlled. Anyone thinking she won’t have influence is lying to themselves,” Gaucho said, urging her to offer herself for party leadership.
