A woman has been arrested in Garissa over a violent armed robbery and the theft of a Glock 17 pistol, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have said.

According to the DCI, on the night of August 5, 2025, the victim was returning home from a mosque in Bulla Buris when three masked assailants ambushed him.

One attacker wielded an AK-47, another a pistol, while the third carried a rungu. A brutal blow to the head left the victim unconscious and when he regained consciousness, his firearm and cash were missing.

“Investigations were immediately launched and forensic evidence led officers to the suspect’s hideout in Madogo,” DCI said.

“Under pressure, she directed our team to her residence in Bula Kartasi, where we recovered the stolen Glock 17, loaded with 17 rounds, along with other incriminating items.”

During the search, officers also recovered a pistol holster, a military smoke jacket, a service-colour belt and 11 passports belonging to different individuals, among other evidence.

The woman is currently in custody, undergoing processing ahead of her arraignment. Police confirmed that operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the gang still at large.

Police have urged the public to share any information that could help track the remaining suspects.

“We urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as we pursue the rest of the suspects.”
