The Ministry of Interior and National Administration has addressed public concerns over the unavailability of A- and B-series passports on the eCitizen portal, saying measures are being taken to resolve the issue.
In a spot check conducted on February 3, 2026, The Hourly Newswave confirmed that the passport application portal only allows applications for the 66-page Ordinary “C” Series booklet. The 50-page option is not available for first-time applicants.
In a joint statement with the Immigration Department, the ministry acknowledged that applicants have raised concerns about the absence of A- and B-series passport options on the platform.
“The Ministry has put in place measures to ensure that all passport applications are processed promptly without causing any inconvenience to applicants,” the statement read.
The ministry added that it remains committed to facilitating travel and is working to ensure all passport series are available.
“We appreciate your patience as we work on resolving the issue,” the statement added.
Currently, the eCitizen portal only allows issuance of the 50-page Ordinary “B” Series passport in special cases, including lost or mutilated passports.
According to sources cited by The Hourly Newswave, the move is aimed at clearing existing stocks of the 66-page passport booklets.
“The 50-page passports are still valid, but the government is prioritising issuance of the 66-page booklets to manage inventory and streamline the application process,” a source said.
Last year in July, the government withdrew the 34-page passport from circulation, citing a shortage of the booklets.
