President William Ruto has said that many of the challenges he faces in office are the result of decisions he deliberately made to advance national development.

Speaking on Monday in Karen, where he and ODM leader Raila Odinga chaired a joint Parliamentary Group meeting, the President noted that implementing key reforms including the new funding model, the Sharing of Revenue Act (SHA), and housing initiatives, has created difficulties for his administration.

“The difficulties that I face today as a President in Kenya are self-imposed. I imposed on myself all these challenges, implementing the new funding model, SHA, housing, and more,” Ruto said.

He added that some of the reforms his administration has pursued have been politically challenging but were essential for national progress.

“If I hadn’t done these, I would be very popular, but the country would not have moved anywhere,” Ruto said, underscoring his commitment to long-term development over short-term popularity.

Ruto further added that true leadership often involves making tough choices that may not win immediate public approval but are necessary for long-term progress arguing that true leadership often involves making tough choices.
