The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined Kenya Sh6.45 million (USD 50,000) following safety and security lapses during the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier between Harambee Stars and Morocco at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
In a statement released on Wednesday, August 13, CAF said its Disciplinary Board found the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) guilty of multiple breaches during the match, which raised serious concerns over stadium security and crowd control.
“The CAF Disciplinary Board charged the Football Kenya Federation (‘FKF’) with multiple safety and security breaches during Kenya’s TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (‘CHAN’) match against Morocco at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The disciplinary board found Kenya guilty and imposed a fine of USD 50,000 (Sh6.4 million),” the statement read in part.
CAF warned that repeated failure to meet its safety and security standards could result in the relocation of Kenya’s national team matches to alternative venues.

The governing body advised FKF to take urgent corrective measures, including deploying adequate security personnel inside and around the stadium and enforcing strict road closures on match days to control access and movement.
The fine follows a previous sanction by CAF, which on August 11 imposed a Sh2.5 million (USD 20,000) penalty on Kenya for security breaches during the Harambee Stars match against DR Congo at Kasarani.
CAF has also announced stringent new regulations for upcoming fixtures, limiting attendance to 27,000 spectators for the Sunday, August 17, Zambia vs Kenya match and allowing entry only to holders of electronic tickets, effectively banning thermal or paper tickets.
The fines are to be paid within 60 days of notification, underscoring CAF’s increasing focus on stadium safety and compliance ahead of continental competitions.
