Kenya Power has announced a scheduled power interruption in several parts of the country on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, to allow for routine maintenance of its electricity network.

“Our teams will be working on line improvement and repairs to minimize unplanned outages in the future. These planned interruptions are part of our regular maintenance programme,” Kenya Power said in the notice.

According to the utility, the exercise will affect customers across Migori, Nyeri, Embu, Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Vihiga, Kakamega and Kisii counties.

In Migori County, power will be switched off from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Namba Kodero and surrounding areas including Namba Koloo, Nyandema, Nyandago, Bande, Amoyo, Got Kachola, Muhuru Bay and other adjacent customers.

In the Mt. Kenya region, parts of Nyeri County such as Ndima-Ini and Kirimara will also be affected between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., touching areas like Kiangogoyo, Karindundu, Kiahiti, Ndima-Ini Market, and nearby institutions including Kirimara High School.

Embu County customers in Kiritiri, Mayori and Kiambere will experience outages during the same hours, covering localities such as Kirima, Kamunyange, Karambari, Mayori, Igumori, and Kiambere.

In the Coast region, the maintenance will hit Watamu in Kilifi County, Msambweni and Shimoni in Kwale County, and parts of Mombasa. Affected customers in Mombasa include those in Changamwe, Kipevu, Kenya Meat, and Miracle Park, as well as businesses along Tangana Road and Machakos Street such as Toyota Kenya, CFAO, Chloride Exide, and AAR Healthcare.

“The exercise is aimed at strengthening the grid to support both domestic and business users. We encourage our customers to make necessary arrangements for the day,” the company added.

In Nakuru County, areas including Elementaita, Kongoi, Munanda, Tangi Tano, Mau Narok and Mauche will have no power between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Uasin Gishu County will also be affected, with outages planned in Assuburiet, Mkombozi, Chebarus Kesses and Chepkanga, stretching from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

In Western Kenya, part of Mbale Town in Vihiga County, including Broad Park Hotel and Chevakali Market, will be off supply between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., while in Kakamega County, Ingotse and its environs will face a 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. disruption.

South Nyanza will not be spared, as Ogembo in Kisii County, including the law courts, market and nearby villages, will undergo maintenance during the same hours.

Kenya Power said the interruptions are necessary to improve reliability and ensure a stable supply of electricity.

“We regret any inconvenience that may be caused during the operations,” the company stated.
