Kenya Power has listed areas across 10 counties where scheduled electricity interruptions will be effected on Thursday, October 2, 2025.

In a public notice on Wednesday evening, the utility firm said the outages will affect parts of Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Trans Nzoia, Kericho, Makueni, Busia, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri and Meru counties.

The company explained that the interruptions are part of routine maintenance meant to strengthen the reliability of supply.

“We advise customers in the listed regions to make alternative plans and to treat all lines as live during the period of interruption,” Kenya Power said.

In Uasin Gishu, the blackout will affect Burnt Forest and surrounding villages including Kaptega, Kapchorwa and Ainabkoi. In Nandi, residents around Emrok will be off the grid between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Trans Nzoia County will see outages around Mois Bridge, Matunda Natwana and Conbelt Millers, while Kericho residents in Kipchimchim, Laliet Quarry and nearby estates will also be affected.

Makueni will experience a wide shutdown spanning Kaumoni, Kikima, Tawa, Kiteta and Kalawani. In Busia, the entire town including the referral hospital and the Kenya Power office will go without electricity from morning to evening.

Parts of Kirinyaga such as Mutira, Kabonge and Karaini have been listed, together with sections of Murang’a including Kiria and Muchungucha.

In Nyeri, the affected areas include Kiamathambo, Narumoru Girls and Kamune. Meru County will also be hit, with Nchiru and its environs such as Meru University of Science and Technology, Mwitingha and Kaamu Primary marked for shutdown.

Kenya Power noted that the interruptions will last between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. depending on the location, after which supply will be restored.

The company urged residents to prepare adequately for the disruption.

“We appeal to our customers to safeguard electrical appliances and store sufficient water as our engineers carry out the essential works,” the statement added.

Thursday’s exercise is part of a wider programme by Kenya Power to modernise its ageing network and cut down on unplanned blackouts.
