Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Monday held a strategic meeting with a delegation from Siemens Healthineers, led by Vice President Kevin Ani Massoudi, aimed at strengthening Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda with a focus on expanding access to cancer treatment.

Under the government’s transformative health agenda, the Ministry of Health is engaged with stakeholders to improve access to affordable, quality healthcare.

Regional cancer centres are being established in Mombasa, Nakuru, and Garissa to decentralise specialised services and bring care closer to communities.

During the meeting, Duale highlighted the ongoing National Equipment Service Project (NESP), which is enhancing access to critical diagnostic and treatment equipment nationwide.

He also cited the Ministry’s MoU with Roche, which has reduced the cost of Herceptin therapy from Ksh.120,000 to Ksh.40,000 per session, now fully covered by the Social Health Authority (SHA).

“This ensures equitable access to life-saving cancer treatment across the country,” Duale said.

Discussions focused on establishing sustainable Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and leveraging Siemens Healthineers’ expertise in AI, digital platforms, capacity building, and technology transfer to strengthen Kenya’s health systems.

“By collaborating with Siemens Healthineers, we aim to advance digital innovations and sustainable equipment models that position Kenya as a leader in cancer care in Africa,” Duale added.

The two parties agreed to form a joint technical working group to implement SLAs, digital innovations, and NESP-aligned equipment models, reinforcing Kenya’s commitment to accessible and sustainable radiotherapy and diagnostics.

“Partnerships like these are key to ensuring that every Kenyan has access to quality, life-saving cancer treatment,” Duale said.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary for Medical Services Ouma Oluga, Director General for Health Patrick Amoth, National Cancer Institute of Kenya (NCIKenya) CEO Elias Melly, and other senior Ministry officials.
