Kiprono Cheburet has secured the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket for the forthcoming Baringo senatorial by-election after recording a decisive victory in the party primaries.
According to results released by the party, Kiprono garnered 48,791 votes to defeat eight other contenders in the exercise held earlier this week.
His closest rival, Tobole Kipsang Kibor Wycliffe, collected 30,897 votes, while Daniel Kiptoo Korir finished third with 23,613.
“Mr Kiprono Cheburet garnered 48,791 votes in the UDA Party nomination contest to clinch the party ticket for the November 27 Baringo Senatorial by-election,” the party announced in a statement shared on its official X page.
The other aspirants trailed with much lower tallies, among them Sylas Kipkogey Tochim who received 769 votes, Evans Kiprotich Mundulel Bett 735, Joseph Rotich Cherutoi 172, Isaiah Kipkoros Kipkurnet 141, Linus Musa Kamket 118 and Reuben Chirchir Chepsongol 82.
Kiprono’s victory now places him on the ballot as the ruling party’s flagbearer in the November 27 poll.
The seat fell vacant following the death of Senator William Cheptumo, whose passing set off an intense political contest in one of the Rift Valley’s most influential counties.
Party officials described the nomination as smooth, citing strong voter turnout and transparent tallying as evidence of a credible process.
Similarly, on Sunday, UDA announced that Philip Kipkosgey Kiprutto had clinched the party ticket for the Metkei Ward by-election in Elgeyo Marakwet County. Kiprutto emerged victorious after securing 2,117 votes in the nominations held on Saturday.

He beat four other aspirants in the contest: Daniel Chirchir, who garnered 1,778 votes, Victor Mutai (71), Nancy Bursalai (31), and Stephen Kiprono (8).
Following the victory, Kiprutto was presented with the party’s provisional certificate by National Election Board (NEB) member Halake Dida, who oversaw the Ward nominations across Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, and Nandi counties.
The win positions Kiprutto as UDA’s flagbearer in the upcoming Metkei Ward by-election, further highlighting the party’s efforts to consolidate its dominance in the Rift Valley region.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has confirmed preparations for the by-election are underway.
The electoral body reaffirmed that it has begun putting in place security measures, logistical plans and voter education campaigns ahead of polling day.
