Panic and chaos gripped Donholm estate in Nairobi on Friday morning, February 6, after a gas depot was engulfed by a massive fire.
Images obtained by The Hourly News Wave show huge flames and thick plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky, visible from several parts of the city.
Witnesses said they heard a series of loud explosions after a fire broke out near the Total Petrol Station in Donholm, opposite Triple K.
Preliminary reports indicate that the fire spread to a nearby gas cylinder depot, triggering multiple explosions as the cylinders went off one after another. The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
Residents were seen fleeing the area in panic as emergency response teams rushed to the scene to contain the situation.
“It felt like bombs were going off in the hood,” one witness wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
According to eyewitness accounts, the fire is believed to have started at a local eatery before spreading to a nearby clinic and eventually reaching the gas depot.
Images circulating on social media show a water cannon deployed at the scene, although by the time of publication, it was unclear whether the fire had been fully contained.
Authorities had not confirmed the extent of property damage, nor whether there were injuries or fatalities resulting from the incident.
The Donholm blaze adds to a growing list of similar fire incidents reported in Nairobi’s Eastlands area in recent months.
