Kenyan boxer Potifus Odipo, popularly known as “Majembe,” is set to enjoy a substantial payday and a host of perks following his stunning win at the highly anticipated Vurugu boxing match on Saturday, April 4.

The 21-year-old defeated Ferdinand Omondi, alias “Mbavu Destroyer,” in the fourth round, delivering one of the most exciting sporting moments in Kenya this year.

Following his victory, Majembe has emerged as the undisputed winner, with fans yet to fully grasp the value of the rewards he stands to receive.

Majembe’s RewardsPresident William Ruto has awarded Majembe Ksh1 million, part of a larger Ksh4 million he contributed to the event, which also included Ksh1 million for Mbavu Destroyer. The official fight prize, announced earlier by organizer Obinna, was also Ksh1 million for the winner.

In addition, a prominent betting company that sponsored the bout pledged a brand-new Toyota Noah, valued at about Ksh4 million, for the winner. Majembe is also expected to receive a Taro GP1 sports bike worth over Ksh385,000.

Beyond cash and vehicles, Majembe will enjoy a one-year gym membership, a full supply of supplements, and opportunities for brand endorsements and promotional work, further boosting his earnings.

Support from LeadersThe fight drew notable backing from political leaders. ODM leader Oburu Odinga contributed Ksh1 million, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino bought over 500 tickets for fans, and Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri donated Ksh2 million

Former Second Lady Dorcas Gachagua gave Ksh400,000, President Ruto’s son George Ruto added Ksh500,000, and Oketch Salah donated Ksh200,000. It remains unclear whether these contributions went directly to the fighters or towards event logistics.

Mbavu Destroyer’s FutureDespite his loss, Mbavu Destroyer is poised for a promising future. Leading up to the bout, he gained significant traction on social media and secured several brand endorsements. He also walks away with Ksh1 million from President Ruto, ensuring a strong foundation for his career.

The Vurugu fight, held at Kasarani Indoor Arena, captivated fans nationwide, boosted further by President Ruto’s support and the high-profile involvement of other leaders.
