The National Police Service (NPS) has ordered immediate administrative action against six senior police officers following an assault incident captured on CCTV at a pool table venue in Nandi Hills.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja said the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) was promptly directed to carry out an exhaustive investigation after the video surfaced and was confirmed to have been filmed in Nandi Hills.
“Following the emergence of a disturbing CCTV video, the National Police Service immediately directed the Internal Affairs Unit to conduct an exhaustive investigation,” the statement read.
After reviewing the findings, the Inspector General accepted the IAU’s recommendations and sanctioned administrative action against the Sub-County Police Commander (OCPD) for Tinderet, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) for Songoh, the OCS for Nandi Hills, and the officers in charge of RDU, GSU, and ASTU Songoh camps.
According to the NPS, the decision to take action against local commanders was intentional.
“This action deliberately focuses on local commanders to ensure they are held fully accountable for all conduct within their jurisdictions,” the statement said.
The police leadership issued a stern warning against misconduct, stating: “There will be no tolerance for such misconduct.” The Inspector General further reminded officers of their responsibilities, noting that they carry “a solemn duty as custodians of public safety, security, and property.”
“This is an integral and cardinal obligation that must be discharged with professionalism and responsibility at all times,” the statement added.
The National Police Service said it “deeply regrets the incident at Nandi Hills” and extended its sympathies to the victims, reaffirming its commitment to accountability.
“We reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that all illegal acts are dealt with firmly and in accordance with the law,” the statement read.
