Police Arrest Suspect, Seize Cannabis Worth KSh 4 Million in Kisii

Police officers in Kisii South Sub-County have arrested one suspect and seized narcotic drugs valued at Ksh. 4 million following a road operation along the Kisii–Migori Highway.


The incident happened on Thursday after officers from Gesonso Police Station mounted a roadblock acting on a tip-off about a suspicious vehicle.


The vehicle, however, defied orders to stop and ran over metal spikes before being intercepted after a short chase.


A 43-year-old man was arrested as he attempted to escape. Police recovered five and a half sacks of dry green plant material believed to be cannabis sativa during a search of the vehicle. The suspect’s car was later towed to the station.


“The suspect is in custody pending processing and arraignment,” NPS said.


In a statement, the National Police Service commended the public for sharing credible information that led to the operation.


 The service also urged residents to continue working with law enforcement through community policing initiatives by reporting crime and suspicious activities.


On August, 27 , 2025 officers  Matungu Police Station in Kakamega mounted a roadblock and intercepted a motorcycle ferrying 25kgs of cannabis sativa.


The suspect was flagged down when approaching the roadblock.


However , he defied the order to stop, drove over the spike barrier, and had his front tyre punctured.


He stopped a few metres from the roadblock, abandoned the motorcycle, and escaped on foot.


Both the exhibit and the motorcycle were impounded pending further police action.

The National Police Service has remained vigilant in fighting against drug trafficking.
