Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has accused some political leaders of misusing the church as a platform to advance their careers, saying the institution has been abused in the quest for power.
Speaking on Sunday during a service at St. Luke’s King’eero Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) in Wangige, Matiang’i noted that the church has historically been a trusted institution in Kenya, yet some leaders have exploited its influence for personal gain.
“No one has been betrayed like the Church. It was misused, and even abused, by some of our leaders who used it as a platform to propel themselves into positions of responsibility under the guise of being church members,” Matiang’i said.
“The most important, I think no one has been retained in this country more than the church and no one has been let us down more than the church.”
Matiang’i expressed concern that while the church has provided moral guidance and support to communities, some politicians have taken advantage of its standing to further their personal ambitions.

“They are the ones who were misused or even abused by something to provide a platform responsibility, under the guise of them being your members, when in actual fact, the obesity is using the density of the church,” he said, calling for introspection among leaders and congregants alike.
He urged Kenyans to reflect on the role of institutions like the church in shaping the country’s future.
“Let us think about the future of our country, and then how leaders can right direction believe us right direction,” Matiang’i said.
