President Ruto Sends Message to 15 Victims of Road Accident Near Dedan Kimathi University

President William Ruto has sent a heartfelt message of condolence to the victims of
a grisly road accident near Dedan Kimathi University of Technology.
In a statement shared on social media, the President expressed sympathy to the affected families,
He promised that the national government, together with the county government, would provide all necessary support during this difficult time.
“Our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences go out to the victims of the road accident that occurred this evening near Dedan Kimathi University in Nyeri County.
"We pray for the swift recovery of those injured.
"The national government, in conjunction with the county government of Nyeri, is engaging with the affected families and will provide all necessary support during this difficult time. Pole sana.”
Several leaders, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Democracy for the Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua, also sent condolence messages.
“My family and I send our deepest sympathies to the families who have lost their loved ones and wish a quick recovery to those who are injured. I call for maximum care and caution on our roads to save human lives at every point of our journeys.
"At the same time, authorities responsible for the improvement of our roads and signage must ensure that this is not a privilege but a right for every road. One life lost is one too many.
"May the Almighty God rest the souls of our faithful departed in eternal peace,” said Rigathi Gachagua.
In a statement on his Facebook account, Kithure Kindiki said:
“Saddened by reports of the loss of 15 people in a tragic road crash near Dedan Kimathi University in Nyeri County.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families, and we hope for the quick recovery of the injured. Drivers, observe safety precautions.
"Any time you are on the road, remember that your life, the lives of your passengers, and those of other road users are in your hands.”
A tragic road accident claimed lives and left multiple people injured along the Nyeri–Nyahururu highway near Dedan Kimathi University of Technology on the evening of Saturday, March 28, 2026.
According to initial reports from the scene, the crash involved a public service vehicle (matatu) and a lorry transporting logs.
Witnesses indicate that the lorry lost control before colliding with the matatu, leading to a devastating impact that caused significant damage and casualties.
In the beginning of the year, State House released a chilling report released revealing that Kenya’s roads have become increasingly lethal, with 5,009 deaths recorded in 2025.
