Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called for the immediate resignation of Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo following the violent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu.

Speaking on Thursday, Kalonzo faulted security agencies over what he termed as failure to swiftly arrest those behind the assault, warning that legal action could be taken if no action is seen.

“Having seen the clip and listened to Senator Osotsi, there is absolutely no reason why those individuals who attacked him should not have been apprehended by now,” Kalonzo said.

He added that if the suspects are not arrested within a short timeframe, he would consider pursuing private prosecution against the Interior PS.

“If they will not have been apprehended by tomorrow, we will be on a trail and even institute private prosecution against PS Omollo,” he stated.

Kalonzo further held President William Ruto accountable for the incident, saying the responsibility ultimately lies with his administration.

“This is the Office of the President, and therefore we hold him to account if he does not order the arrest of these goons who attacked Osotsi,” he said.

He described the attack as more serious than recent government scandals, arguing that it directly endangered lives.

“I saw action being taken over the fuel scandal, but this is even bigger because it has to do with the lives of Kenyans,” Kalonzo added.

The Wiper leader also claimed the incident was politically motivated, alleging attempts to block opposition leaders from accessing certain regions.

“They wanted to zone this country so that no opposition leader would set foot democratically in Kisumu. Shame on them,” he said.

Kalonzo further urged Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to advise the President urgently on the matter.

The remarks come after Senator Osotsi was assaulted by a group of armed individuals on Wednesday, April 8, in Kisumu County.

According to his communications office, the senator had made a routine visit to the Acacia area before heading to a restaurant where he met a friend and interacted with members of the public.

He was later attacked in what his office described as a premeditated incident linked to his political stance. Osotsi has since been airlifted to Nairobi where he is receiving treatment.

The senator’s office, however, cautioned against blaming Kisumu residents, noting that he had interacted freely with locals before the attack.

“This isolated incident should not, in any way, be used to tarnish the image of the people of Kisumu, who have consistently demonstrated warmth and hospitality,” the statement said.

The office also called on the National Police Service to expedite investigations, pointing to CCTV footage at the scene as a key lead in identifying the attackers.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) condemned the incident, terming it a “brazen and cowardly” attack.

The agency said detectives are pursuing crucial leads, including forensic analysis of CCTV footage, to establish the motive and apprehend those responsible.

“We urge members of the public to remain calm, refrain from speculation and allow investigations to proceed without interference,” the DCI said.
