Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has spoken publicly about the circumstances surrounding what he described as a suspected abduction attempt, detailing how he evaded individuals he believed were trailing him in Nairobi.

Speaking to the press on Monday, Tuju said the ordeal began on Friday March 21st, when he noticed a vehicle following him in a manner he found suspicious. He reported the matter at Karen Police Station, under OB 21/21/03/2026, expressing concern for his safety.

According to Tuju, the situation escalated on Saturday evening as he headed for a scheduled interview at Ramogi Radio. He claimed the same vehicle, described as a Land Cruiser without number plates, reappeared and began trailing him more aggressively.

He said the occupants attempted to corner him near the Karen roundabout, prompting him to take evasive action.

“You know when you're being followed; you slow down, they slow down; you overtake, they try to overtake,” Tuju said.

He explained that his familiarity with the area helped him escape after diverting into Nandi Road, where the pursuing vehicle was unable to follow due to the road layout.

After losing the vehicle, Tuju said he drove through several roads within Karen before deciding to abandon his car for safety reasons. He later sought refuge at a private residence near the Kiambu–Nairobi boundary, where he spent the night.

“They didn’t care about my tribe; they simply saw me as a human being and gave me shelter,” he said.

Tuju’s account comes a day after Kalonzo Musyoka alleged that he had been abducted, linking the incident to attempts by former President Uhuru Kenyatta to reach out to political leaders.

“Raphael Tuju has been abducted. I think that’s why Uhuru Kenyatta is trying to reach out to us,” Kalonzo said on Sunday March 22nd.

However, Tuju’s statement stops short of confirming any abduction, instead describing a suspected surveillance and attempted interception.

Police have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident, and it remains unclear who was behind the alleged pursuit.

The developments add to rising political tensions, with leaders raising concerns over security and alleged intimidation in the current political climate.
