Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has jokingly called on President William Ruto to reward senators with Sh1 million each after they thrashed county governors 5–0 in a friendly match during the Devolution Conference football tournament.

The Senators dominated the friendly encounter, part of the ongoing Devolution Conference activities, leaving the governors’ side struggling to contain their pace and precision.

Riding on the victory, Kingi said the 16-member squad should receive Sh1 million each, the same appreciation token Ruto has been offering Harambee Stars for every win in the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.

“President Ruto, in keeping with your generosity… the Senate team, having beaten the Governors, is wishing to be considered for that appreciation token,” Kingi said, adding that he could pass by State Lodge and collect Sh16 million on their behalf.

Ruto’s pledge to Harambee Stars Sh1 million per win and Sh500,000 for a draw has already seen the national team pocket Sh2.5 million from recent CHAN fixtures. The incentive has been widely praised as a morale booster for players.

“We have seen how much the Harambee Stars have been motivated by your gesture,” Kingi said.

“We believe the same spirit could be extended to the Senate team, which delivered a resounding win over the Governors.”
