Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohammed has clarified the distinction between lobbying and corruption in the National Assembly, stressing that bribing parliamentary committees is not a common practice in Kenya.

Speaking on Monday, MP Junet addressed remarks made by President William Ruto regarding alleged corrupt practices within Parliament. He said that what the president described was different from internationally recognized lobbying.

“I assumed you were referring to lobbying, but the one you described is different from what is practiced globally,” Junet said.

He explained that legitimate lobbying is conducted by people outside Parliament, not by MPs themselves.

Junet further emphasized that bribery within parliamentary committees is not part of Kenyan legislative practice.

“President Ruto, the bribing of parliamentary committees you spoke about is alien to us and I have never seen that before, what we have is lobbying," he added.
