Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has voiced strong disapproval over the viral TikTok videos featuring former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
He has called on Kenyans to stop sharing what he described as comedic and caricature content.
Speaking on August 11, 2025, while addressing the public, CS Murkomen questioned the seriousness of Gachagua’s recent statements and hinted at concerns over his mental health.
The CS’s comments followed widespread circulation of videos showing Gachagua during a recent trip abroad, including casual interactions with airport staff and visits to amusement parks, which he framed as official engagements.
Critics have described the clips as trivial and politically motivated.
“Information that is worth and I insist if the former Deputy President has any information that is worth consideration, not just by local but even international institutions, he must record it with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) as soon as he arrives in the country so that we can take him seriously,” Murkomen said.
“Until then, we will just consider it a part of his continuous comedy and caricature that he has become in everything he says out there.”
CS Murkomen dismissed the videos of Gachagua posing for photos with airport police terming them as a total joke and called on those close to the former Deputy President to help him seek medical treatment.
“The constitution insists that people holding public office must be of sound mind. That is currently extremely questionable in his case,” Murkomen stated, referring to Gachagua’s contradictory statements about national security issues, including Al Shabaab.
He warned that the continued sharing of such videos encourages harmful rhetoric and that the situation is no longer a laughing matter.
