Five people were injured in an accidental shooting at Bungoma Law Courts on Tuesday morning.

According to Judiciary spokesperson Paul Ndemo, the incident occurred around 10:50 am during a High Court criminal hearing when a firearm belonging to a DCI (Directorate of Criminal Investigations) officer accidentally discharged.

"At 10:50 am, during the hearing of a criminal matter in the High Court, a DCI officer's firearm accidentally discharged a bullet, injuring him, a Kenya Prisons officer, and three civilians," Ndemo stated.

The injured, including the DCI officer, a Kenya Prisons officer, and three civilians, were immediately rushed to Bungoma Referral Hospital.

Officials confirmed that all are in stable condition and that none of the injuries are life-threatening.

The Judiciary reassured the public that all court officials and members of the public present are safe.

"All court officials as well as members of the public at the Court are safe and there is therefore no need for alarm," the statement read.

A county security team visited the scene and is currently assessing the situation. The Judiciary said it will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
