Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka faced a hostile reception in Mt Kenya East after residents booed him during a public address, forcing the leader to cut short his speech.
According to a video seen by The Hourly Newswave on social media, the incident unfolded in dramatic fashion as Musyoka attempted to address a gathering.
The footage shows him taking the microphone to speak, but almost immediately the crowd began chanting “Tutam” (Two terms) in unison.
The chant, which was accompanied by hand gestures symbolizing “two terms,” grew louder as he continued to speak.
The video captures a visibly restless audience, with groups of residents waving their hands rhythmically while shouting over the leader’s attempts to calm them.

The chanting was uniform, drowning out any remarks from Kalonzo. Most leaders who were present did not get the chance to address the crowd as the heckling persisted.
Within minutes, Kalonzo and his team abandoned the address. The video shows him and his aides retreating quickly from the venue, boarding their convoy of black Land Cruisers and driving away as the chants continued behind them.
Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti Oduwole strongly condemned the heckling that forced Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to cut short his address.

Taking to X after videos of the incident went viral, the governor denounced the conduct of the crowd, describing it as a dangerous trend that erodes democratic space.
“The political intolerance that our party leader (Wiper Kalonzo) encountered is utterly unacceptable. We must collectively condemn this behaviour as it leads down a perilous path. Let us stand united against such divisiveness and uphold the values of respect and tolerance in our political discourse,” she wrote.
By framing the incident as more than just heckling, the governor positioned it as a warning sign of deepening political hostilities that could shape the tone of campaigns heading into 2027.
