Senior Counsel Charles Kanjama has pledged to unite supporters and rivals after clinching victory in the closely fought Law Society of Kenya (LSK) presidential election, as members await formal confirmation of the results by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Addressing the press after vote tallying, Kanjama expressed confidence that returns from polling stations had given him the mandate to lead the society for the next two years.

“All polling stations have shown that voters have chosen Charles Kanjama. They have expressed confidence in me to lead them for the next two years. We are here at IEBC to confirm this victory,” he said.

Kanjama thanked LSK members for turning out to vote and extended an olive branch to his competitors, promising inclusive leadership focused on strengthening the society.

“I would like to thank all voters and members of the Law Society of Kenya — those who supported my candidature and those who voted for my opponents. I am confident we can work together. We believe in a strong LSK for all,” he stated, adding that the society’s leadership holds national significance beyond the legal profession.

Kanjama secured 3,728 votes, defeating Peter Wanyama, who garnered 2,616 votes, and Mwaura Kabata, who finished third with 2,086 votes. He succeeds Faith Odhiambo, whose two-year term has come to an end.

With over two decades of legal experience, Kanjama will steer the 2026–2028 council at a time when the LSK’s voice in national discourse remains pivotal. His win has been viewed by some members as a call for experienced and steady leadership amid growing institutional responsibilities.

The biennial elections, overseen by the LSK Elections Board and conducted by the IEBC at High Court stations nationwide, saw lawyers elect the President, Vice-President, and Council members of the society, which represents more than 20,000 practising advocates across Kenya.
