The nation continues to mourn the sudden death of MP Johanna Ngeno, as new details emerge about those who perished alongside him in the Mosop helicopter accident.
The Emurua Dikirr MP died on February 28 when a helicopter, registration number 5Y-DSB, went down in Chepkiep Forest just minutes after take-off. The aircraft caught fire on impact, claiming the lives of all six passengers on board.
Who was on board?
Among the other victims was Ngeno’s personal photographer, journalist Nick Kosgei. The news of Kosgei’s death has shocked many on social media, with friends, colleagues, and well-wishers sharing tributes as they struggle to process the loss.
Hours before the crash, Kosgei had posted updates from the field, documenting the MP’s visit to areas affected by heavy rains.
In his final post, he uploaded a video filmed from the helicopter’s backseat, showing Ngeno seated beside the co-pilot as they inspected flooding in the Mara Rianta area near the Mara River.
Kosgei was behind the camera and added a song about seeking God’s help in challenging times, lyrics that many now see as a haunting coincidence:
"Hivi leo nakuita, nisikie, usiende mbali nami, usiniache"
He captioned the video:
“This morning, Hon. Ngong Ngeno joined the search and rescue team at Mara Rianta, standing in solidarity with officers and community members as they work tirelessly to locate the two young men whose vehicle was swept away by the raging waters of the Mara River on Sunday night.”
