Kenya Power Announces Planned Outages in 5 Counties on Monday

Kenya Power has announced planned power maintenance in parts of Nyeri, Murang’a, Meru, West Pokot, and Siaya counties on Monday, September 8, 2025.
“This maintenance is aimed at improving the reliability and stability of electricity supply to our customers,” Kenya Power said in a notice.
In Nyeri County, the outage will affect Kangubiri and Ithekahuno areas between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Among the institutions and facilities listed are Sagana Falls Power Station, Kangubiri Girls, Gititu Dispensary, Aguthi Secondary School, Ithekahuno Market, and several coffee factories.
In Murang’a County, two areas will experience interruptions. Power supply will be cut in Kagaa, including Cornstar Millers, Kagaa Secondary School, and Kagaa Getune Primary from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Gacharage and Mununga areas will also be off the grid during the same period, with affected spots including Gaturumo, Gacharage Tea Factory, Mununga Market, and Kinyona.
In Meru County, the most extensive maintenance work will be carried out, with outages scheduled in Igoji, Kinoro, and Kathigu from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Institutions to be affected include Igoji Teachers Training College, Igoji Mission Hospital, Kinoro Tea Factory, Pioneer Education Centre, Gikurune Boys, and Igoji Boys. Several markets, coffee factories, and churches are also expected to be impacted.
“We urge customers in the affected counties to make the necessary arrangements as power will be interrupted for several hours,” the utility added.
In the North Rift, residents of Chepnyal in West Pokot County will face outages between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Areas listed include Kapombo, Chepkopegh, Tamugh, and Chepnyal town.
Meanwhile, in Siaya County, Boro area will be without electricity from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The outage will affect Malaha School, Mbaga Mission, Bishop Okoth Girls, and surrounding customers.
“Kenya Power remains committed to providing safe and reliable electricity and appreciates the patience of customers during the planned works,” the statement read.
