Kenya Power Announces Power Cuts in 6 Counties on Monday

Kenya Power has announced that parts of the Central Rift, North Rift, Western, Mt. Kenya and Coast regions will experience power interruptions on Monday, September 22, to allow for scheduled maintenance.

 

Kenya Power said the interruptions are part of efforts to enhance service reliability.

 

“The maintenance exercise is aimed at strengthening our distribution network to ensure a more stable and reliable supply of electricity,” the company said in a statement.

 

In the Central Rift, customers in Londiani Township and surrounding areas of Kericho County will be affected from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.


The outage will also extend to Barotion, Nukiat, Kipsirichet, Tuiyobei Market, Londiani Sub-District Hospital, Black Tulips Farm, Kapkondoo, Jagor and neighbouring areas.

 

Still in the region, sections of Bomet County including Koiwa Market and Sotit Market will be without electricity during the same period.

 

The outage will cover Rorok, Kobel and Siomo tea factories as well as Cheptalal, Taboino, Kitala, Kimarwandi, Embomos, Bosto, Satiet, Kaptebengwet, Kiptenden and nearby areas.

 

In the North Rift, Kenya Power has scheduled a five-hour interruption, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., targeting Emrock Tea Factory in Nandi County and surrounding areas including Himaki, Lelwak and Kogamei.

In the Western region, power will go off between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in parts of Kakamega County, affecting Matete, Mbande, Matsakha, Chebwai, Lueshe, Butali Sugar, Shivanga, Tombo, Butali Market, Namanja, Namagara, the Cereal Board and surrounding customers.

 

In the Mt. Kenya region, the outage will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Nyeri County, hitting Kirurumi, Gatumbiro and surrounding areas.

 

Customers expected to be affected include those in Wandumbi, Huhoini, Gaithuri Market, Kinyungu TBC, TEWASCO Water Plant, Kirurumi Dispensary, Gathathini Secondary School and Wagatu.

 

At the Coast, residents of Chakaleri, Kizima and Mwaranginyi in Taita Taveta County will face a full-day outage from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

 

The affected areas include Landi Market, NYS Mgeno, Mzwamenyi, Mwatunge, Msisinenyi, Majengo Singila, Godoma, Mwemba and adjacent locations.

 

The utility further urged customers to exercise caution during the period.

 

“We advise our customers to treat all lines as live for their own safety, even in areas where outages will be experienced,” the statement added.
