Kenya Power has announced planned power outages across several counties on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, to allow for maintenance and upgrades to the national electricity grid.
Customers across Nairobi, Machakos, North Rift, Western, South Nyanza, Mt. Kenya, Isiolo, Kirinyaga and the Coast region will be affected at different times during the day.
“Customers in Nairobi, Machakos and surrounding areas should expect power interruptions from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.,” Kenya Power said urging residents and businesses to take necessary precautions.
The outages will impact both residential and commercial customers, including markets, schools, hospitals, and corporate offices.
In Nairobi, affected areas include part of Kileleshwa, Githunguri Road, and Kangundo Road.
Machakos residents along Kangundo Road, including Miwani, College Road, and Mumbuni, will also experience outages from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In the North Rift, parts of Uasin Gishu County such as Lorwa Village and Kipsangui will be affected between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., while Vihiga County in Western Kenya will see outages from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“Maintenance work is essential to improve network stability and prevent unplanned interruptions,” Kenya Power stated, noting that the planned outages form part of ongoing upgrades to enhance electricity reliability.
Other regions affected include Murang’a, Nyeri, Meru, and Kirinyaga counties in Mt. Kenya, as well as Isiolo Town, Kiwanjani, and Tururoba in Isiolo County.
Coast residents in Kwale, Mombasa, and Kilifi counties, including Galu, Sonrisa, Mtongwe, and parts of Vipingoi, should also prepare for intermittent power loss during the scheduled hours.
KPLC has advised businesses, schools, and households to plan ahead to minimize disruption.
“We appreciate our customers’ patience as we carry out these improvements to ensure a more reliable electricity supply,” the utility said.
Customers are also reminded to avoid using sensitive electrical appliances during the outage and to follow safety guidelines provided by Kenya Power.
The utility urged residents to stay informed through its website and social media platforms for updates on restoration times and any changes to the maintenance schedule.
