Renowned Mugithi artist Samuel Muchoki, widely known as Samidoh, is facing a lawsuit from a Kenyan woman who alleges he raped her during his 2021 music tour in the United States.
In a petition submitted to the High Court in Nairobi (Petition No. E569 of 2025), the woman alleges that the singer sexually assaulted her while overseas and that, despite her reporting the incident, the appropriate government agencies have not taken action.
She identifies Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Attorney General, and the Witness Protection Agency as respondents, alleging their negligence and inaction in addressing her complaint.
“The petitioner avers that she was sexually assaulted by the 1st respondent [Samidoh] during his United States tour in 2021, and despite promptly reporting the matter, no credible investigation or action has been taken to date,” the court papers state.
The petition states that the woman claims the assault occurred following one of Samidoh’s concerts in the US, resulting in her being traumatized and requiring counseling. She also contends that her safety was at risk when she tried to pursue the case after returning to Kenya.

She asserts that rather than being protected, she faced intimidation and neglect, which has worsened her trauma and put her personal safety at risk.
Her petition claims that state agencies are intentionally hindering her efforts to obtain justice, which she describes as a blatant infringement of her constitutional rights.
“The inaction of the 2nd to 5th respondents has not only denied the petitioner access to justice but has also exposed her to ridicule, stigma, and secondary victimization,” the documents add.
The woman is asking for directives to compel the police and investigative bodies to start prompt investigations, provide her with witness protection, and hold Samidoh accountable. Furthermore, she wants the Attorney General to be obligated to clarify why her case has been ignored despite her continuous efforts.
The lawsuit places Samidoh, a highly acclaimed Kikuyu Benga and Mugithi musician in Kenya, under significant public scrutiny. He has yet to release a public statement addressing the serious allegations.
The petition has also brought up broader concerns about the way Kenyan institutions deal with cases of sexual violence involving influential individuals, with rights groups already observing the case as a potential test of state accountability.
“Unless the respondents are compelled by this Honourable Court to act in accordance with the law, the petitioner shall continue to suffer irreparable harm, intimidation, and violation of her fundamental rights,” the petition reads in part.
Both fans and critics are left wondering if Samidoh's star power will endure the controversy, or if the accusations will reshape his public image.
