The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has invited members of the legal fraternity and the public to take part in the Purple Ribbon March on Friday, September 12, in honour of the late Advocate Kyalo Mbobu, who was brutally killed.

According to the society, the peaceful procession will begin at 9:00 a.m. from Milimani Law Courts, proceed along Kenyatta Avenue, and culminate at Vigilance House, where participants are expected to deliver a petition demanding justice and accountability.

LSK said the march is a show of solidarity and a call for urgent action from authorities to ensure that those responsible for Mbobu’s death are held accountable.

“The Purple Ribbon March is not just about mourning one of our own, but also about affirming the rule of law and safeguarding the lives of advocates who continue to serve society in difficult circumstances,” the society noted in its statement.

The public, civil society groups, and other stakeholders have also been urged to join the procession in demanding justice for the slain advocate.

Advocate Mathew Kyalo Mbobu was shot dead on the evening of Tuesday, September 9, 2025, in what police described as a targeted attack along Magadi Road near Galleria–Brookhouse area in Karen, Nairobi.

According to witnesses, two men on a motorcycle pulled up beside his Toyota Prado and opened fire before speeding off. He was hit multiple times as he drove, losing control of the vehicle which came to a stop on the roadside.

A post-mortem conducted by government pathologist Johansen Oduor revealed that Mbobu sustained eight gunshot wounds, with most bullets fired from the right side of his body.

One bullet lodged in his spine while others struck his neck and chest, causing massive internal bleeding that led to his death. Two bullets were recovered from his body for forensic analysis.

Police sources say the nature of the attack suggested a planned execution rather than a random shooting, though investigations into the motive are ongoing.

His killing sparked outrage in the legal fraternity, with the LSK describing it as a grave attack on the rule of law and demanding a speedy, transparent investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
