Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has signaled his intention to vie for the Machakos governorship in the 2027 General Election.
In a post shared on his X account on Monday, February 16, 2026, Makau expressed his desire to lead the county, saying he is ready to restore the glory of Machakos through focused and accountable leadership.
“Happy New Week, Machakos. The dream of restoring the glory of our county lives strongly in my heart. I am ready to provide focused, accountable, and transformative leadership for a greater Machakos,” he stated.
Makau has served as Mavoko MP since 2013 and now appears poised to challenge incumbent Governor Wavinya Ndeti, who is expected to seek a second term. Both leaders were elected under the Wiper Patriotic Movement, led by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.
Should Makau formally declare his bid, he could face Ndeti in a competitive race for the party ticket ahead of the 2027 polls. However, the MP has not yet specified the political party he will use to contest for the county’s top seat.
Meanwhile, Governor Ndeti has cautioned her rivals to prepare for a tough contest. Speaking at a rally in Mlolongo in December 2025, she affirmed her focus remains on delivering on her mandate to the people of Machakos.
“My opponents came here to Mumbuni, attacking me with every single opportunity, and I defeated all of them. That was just the beginning of the defeat they will face,” she said.
Ndeti also pointed to her party’s recent victory in the Mumbuni North by-election as proof of Wiper’s continued dominance in the region.
