Gospel singer Owen Mwatia, popularly known as Daddy Owen, has paid heartfelt tribute to his parents, acknowledging their sacrifices as he marks another year of life.
In a moving post on his official Instagram account on Thursday, January 29, 2026, Daddy Owen praised his mother for her resilience and dedication in raising him and his siblings.
“As I celebrate my birthday today, my heart is filled with gratitude. I want to honour this beautiful woman I call my mother,” he wrote.
“She endured so much to raise us, sacrificing endlessly to ensure I grew up and became someone.”
He also remembered his late father, calling him his hero. Daddy Owen said his father instilled discipline, supported his education, and ensured all his basic needs were met.
“My late father remains my hero. He instilled discipline in me, paid my school fees, and made sure all my basic needs were met. His values still guide me today,” he added.
Reflecting on his own journey as a parent, Daddy Owen said he now fully appreciates the sacrifices his parents made. He also expressed gratitude to God for His protection and guidance.
“I am deeply thankful to my parents for all they endured. Now that I am older and a parent myself, I truly understand the weight of their sacrifices,” he said.
“Above all, I thank God Almighty for His guidance and protection, in Jesus’s mighty name.”
On Parenting and Family Values
Earlier, Daddy Owen sparked debate with a statement criticising Africans for prioritising pets and material comforts over family and parenthood.
In an X post on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, he warned that Africans are copying Western lifestyle choices that have led to demographic and societal challenges in Europe.
“Europeans chose keeping pets over having babies. Now low birth rates have left them with ageing populations and labour shortages, forcing reliance on immigrants,” he wrote.
He urged Africans not to repeat the same mistakes, saying: “We are replacing family with pets, choosing individualism over community, and forgetting our responsibility to future generations.”
