The National Police Service (NPS) has announced temporary road closures and traffic diversions along Thika Superhighway and its connecting routes on Friday, September 5, starting at 6:00 AM, ahead of Kenya’s FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier against Gambia at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Motorists traveling between Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) and Thika, Ruiru, or Juja have been advised to use Kiambu Road at Exit 4, with a roadblock set up at Muthaiga.
“Those heading from Thika Road towards Mwiki to use the Ruaka-Baba Dogo-Lucky Summer-Nairobi River route,” NPS advised.
Residents from Thika, Ruiru and Juja traveling into Nairobi CBD should take the Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road, where a roadblock will be mounted at the Ruiru interchange.
Motorists from Githurai have been directed to use the Githurai 44–Kiambu Road route.
“Access to Moi International Sports Centre will be restricted to vehicles with valid passes, while other motorists are to use the service lanes at Exit 7 and Exit 8,” NPS added.
NPS urged drivers to cooperate with officers on site to ensure smooth traffic flow and warned that additional personnel have been deployed to take stern action against traffic violators.

The announcement comes a day after the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) issued a scam alert, warning fans against purchasing tickets from fraudulent platforms.
FKF confirmed that the only official ticketing partner is Tikiti, accessible via https://www.tikiti.co.ke or by dialing 51955#.
Tickets for Kenya vs Gambia on September 5 and Kenya vs Seychelles on September 9 are available through this platform.
Authorities have urged Nairobi residents to plan their travel early, use the recommended alternative routes, and follow traffic regulations to avoid congestion ahead of the 4:00 PM kickoff.
