Motorists in Nairobi faced temporary disruptions on Thursday, April 9, after the Kenya Police Service (KPS) announced traffic changes within the Central Business District (CBD).
In a traffic advisory, KPS said the measures were put in place to facilitate two major events happening in close proximity at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) and City Hall.
“We wish to inform the public of temporary traffic disruptions within the Central Business District (CBD) today, Thursday, April 9, 2026,” KPS said.
According to the police, the disruptions are linked to the ongoing Africa Urban Forum at KICC and a scheduled address by President William Ruto to the Nairobi County Assembly at City Hall.
“These disruptions are necessary to facilitate two high-profile events occurring in close proximity: the Africa Urban Forum at KICC and the subsequent historic address by H.E. President William Ruto to the Nairobi County Assembly at City Hall,” the advisory stated.
KPS announced that City Hall Way, sections of Wabera Street near City Hall, and the Supreme Court/Parliament Roundabout would be closed due to security arrangements around the venues.
Motorists were urged to seek alternative routes and adhere to directions issued by traffic police officers deployed in the affected areas.
“We urge motorists to use alternative routes and follow the directions of traffic officers on site. We regret any inconvenience caused,” KPS added.
The Africa Urban Forum, which began on Wednesday, April 8, at KICC, is set to run until Friday, April 10.
This year’s forum is themed “Adequate Housing for All: Advancing Socio-economic and Environmental Transformation towards the realization of Agenda 2063.”
The forum, established by the African Union, serves as a platform for dialogue on sustainable urbanisation and human settlements across the continent.
It brings together political leaders, policymakers, local and regional governments, development partners, and other stakeholders to address Africa’s urban challenges and opportunities.
The inaugural Africa Urban Forum was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from September 4 to 6, 2024.
