In an unexpected development, a half-clothed woman was discovered abandoned in a borehole close to Rota beach in Kisumu West, Kisumu county.
The body of the 30-year-old woman is thought to have been murdered by an unidentified individual(s), wrapped in a bedsheet, bound, and subsequently discarded in the borehole.
Villagers reported that the woman, a caretaker at a fish fingerling rearing site, disappeared on Tuesday, March 4th.
The body was wrapped in a bedsheet and secured, with the deceased dressed only in a skirt. Strangle marks were evident on her neck.
Polycarp Omindo, the chief of South West Kisumu location, confirmed the incident, stating that DCI officers had already retrieved the body to commence their investigation into the matter.

The incident takes place at a peak time when the country was perplexed by cases of women being found dead last year, 2024, with the Kware incident being more notable.
This led the President to issue a directive on July 13th, 2024, calling for a swift investigation, stating that the perpetrators will be held accountable.
"Our children and girls in Kware have lost their lives because of criminals," Ruto said.
"I want to tell the country those behind criminal activities against our children, against our daughters in Kware, all of them, the government will make sure they are brought to book and all of them are charged so that we can stop criminality in Kenya and protect our children, our daughters and all citizens," Ruto.
Police data indicates that at least 97 women in Kenya were victims of femicides—intentional killings motivated by gender—between August and October of the previous year.
Based on media reports, the Africa Data Hub collective compiled figures indicating there were at least 75 femicides in 2023 and 46 in the previous year.
