Former Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju has formally resigned from the party, ending his long association with the outfit he helped steer during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.

In a letter dated August 19, 2025, and addressed to former President and Jubilee Party leader Uhuru Kenyatta, Tuju confirmed his exit and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve.

“May I take this opportunity to thank you most sincerely for having given me the opportunity to serve as the Jubilee Secretary General from 2016 to 2022,” Tuju wrote.

Tuju recalled Jubilee’s attempt to build a truly national party that could unite Kenyans across ethnic lines, noting that his appointment as Secretary General had been a bold political decision by Kenyatta.

“It was an exceptionally bold political step on your part to have entrusted this sensitive position to me as a person coming from the Luo tribe, while the anchor of the party was essentially the Kikuyu and Kalenjin tribes,” he stated.

Tuju also paid tribute to his long-standing political association with Kenyatta, which dates back to the coalition politics of the Party of National Unity (PNU) during President Mwai Kibaki’s era.

“This letter is to thank you and to pay tribute to our political association that dates back to the time when I worked with you under President Kibaki to create the PNU outfit,” Tuju said.

Reflecting on the future, Tuju urged Kenya’s political class to rise above tribal politics and wished Kenyatta well in steering the party forward.
