The National Police Service has released a notice informing motorists to anticipate temporary traffic disruptions on Sunday, 17th August 2025.
This is because of the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) and the highly anticipated Harambee Stars vs Zambia match at Moi International Stadium.
The purpose of the traffic diversions is to reduce congestion near important match venues and to ensure the safety of fans and road users.
To reduce disruption, the National Police Service has provided alternative routes for drivers.
Road closures will impact Aerodrome Road, particularly the section between Madaraka Roundabout and Bunyala Roundabout.

Furthermore, a lane on Lang’ata Road (from Madaraka to Lusaka Roundabout) and a lane on Mombasa Road (from Lusaka to Bunyala Roundabout) will be temporarily shut down.
The NPS has offered alternative routes for drivers, which are:
Travelers heading from Mombasa Road to Nairobi CBD should consider using Likoni Road via Enterprise Road or taking the Southern Bypass through Ole Sereni.
Motorists on Lang’ata Road are encouraged to use Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road through Mbagathi Roundabout.
According to the NPS notice, traffic flow on Thika Superhighway will also be impacted.
Vehicles traveling from the CBD to Thika are anticipated to reroute via Kiambu Road at Exit 4 because of a roadblock at Muthaiga.
In the notice, motorists heading to Mwiki are also advised to take the Ruaka–Baba Ndogo–Lucky Summer–Nairobi River–Mwiki route.
Likewise, those traveling from Thika, Juja, and Ruiru have the option to use the Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road, with a roadblock situated at the Ruiru Interchange.
Fans who do not have vehicle access passes and are going to the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, are advised to utilize the service lanes at Exit 7 and Exit 8.
President William Ruto urged Kenyans attending the Sunday football match between Kenya and Zambia at Kasarani Stadium to adhere strictly to the regulations established by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
During a speech at State House in Nairobi following a meeting with leaders from Kisii and Nyamira counties, the President stated that the national team was well-prepared for the match and capable of winning. However, he encouraged supporters to ensure the game takes place in a safe and orderly setting.
“On Sunday, we have a match between Kenya and Zambia at Kasarani. I ask all Kenyans to avoid causing distractions and to follow the procedures and CAF rules. This will help us keep our football fair, safe and respectful,” he said.
Ruto stressed that maintaining discipline among spectators is equally crucial as playing well on the field, cautioning that disruptive conduct could damage the nation’s reputation and affect its chances to host significant tournaments in the future.
“Let’s protect our nation’s reputation as a country that plays football with respect and fairness,” he added.
