The Social Health Authority (SHA) has released Sh3.4 billion to health facilities across the country to settle claims under the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).

In a public notice on issues on Wednesday, SHA said the disbursements cover inpatient care, mental wellness, drug and substance abuse treatment, critical care, and surgical services.

The authority added that an additional Sh1.09 billion has been released from the Primary Health Care Fund, while another Sh1.7 billion is being processed for dialysis, oncology, and surgical claims.

“The Social Health Authority remains committed to timely payments, accountability, and transparency in managing the Social Health Insurance Fund,” Mercy Mwangangi said, SHA Chief Executive Officer.

The announcement comes amid concerns raised on social media over hospital funding, particularly regarding Nyandiwa Level 4 Hospital.

SHA clarified that the facility had received Sh19 million between January and June 2025 for inpatient long stays and maternity services and that the hospital had confirmed receipt of the funds.

“We urge the public to rely on verified information as updated lists of disbursements will be published on our website,” Mwangangi stated.

The new health financing model; SHA, has faced scrutiny from stakeholders over the pace of claims settlement and hospital reimbursements.

With healthcare facilities across the country relying on SHIF to support service delivery, SHA said it would continue to prioritize claims processing to ensure uninterrupted care for patients.
