“Sifuna Will Not Be Coming Back as SG” – Kasmuel McOure

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youth leader Kasmuel McOure has ruled out any possibility of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna reclaiming his position as the party’s Secretary-General.

Kasmuel said the decision to remove Sifuna from the influential administrative post was final and would be ratified by delegates at the upcoming National Delegates Convention (NDC).

“Sifuna will not be coming back as SG because we intend to uphold this decision as delegates of the party at the National Delegates Convention. He’s going to court and we have said that it’s fine, he can go and be the SG of the court. We will continue as a party. He was detrimental to the party’s position. Those hyping him can take him to be their SG,” McOure said on Tuesday, February 17, during an interview with Radio Generation.

He maintained that the party remains united despite internal wrangles, adding that ODM’s structures and loyal membership remain intact.

“I am in the only ODM that makes resolutions — the ODM that says ‘left’ and the party goes left; when it says ‘right,’ the party goes right,” he said.

McOure also declared that he would mobilise youth support for President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.

“I will be part of the people who will be championing for the president’s re-election amongst the youth,” he stated.

The youth leader dismissed claims that ODM was weakening following Sifuna’s removal, arguing that the party has survived more significant political setbacks in the past, including the loss of former Prime Minister and party leader Raila Odinga.

“As a party, we have already faced our biggest loss, and through so much pain, the party still stands. So those threatening us that since we have lost the SG it will counter the party’s position are only talking about the numbers that have left ODM; they are not talking about the numbers that are still in the party,” McOure said.

He added that ODM remains confident of victory in the 2027 General Election.

“We will win the 2027 elections decisively. It will not be easy, but we will win,” he stated.

Sifuna, who served as ODM Secretary-General for nine years, making him the party’s longest-serving SG, addressed the press on February 12, 2026, defending his leadership and political stance.

“My only crime is that I have refused and I oppose any plans and schemes within the party to support President William Ruto’s re-election,” Sifuna said.

His ouster has exposed deep divisions within ODM over its political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election, particularly on whether to cooperate with or oppose the current administration.
