Wambugu Questions Gachagua Over Funds Raised for DCP Launch

Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has cast doubt on former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua’s explanation for cutting short his recent tour of the United States.

 

In a Facebook post on Friday, Wambugu ridiculed Gachagua’s claim that he returned to Kenya to deal with upcoming by-elections, suggesting instead that the trip had gone poorly.

 

“Let’s just agree the U.S. tour went bad. These other stories about by-elections are just excuses,” Wambugu wrote.

He went further to question why Gachagua has not launched the Democracy for the Citizens Party despite reportedly collecting money for that purpose.

“Let’s see whether he will explain to us this weekend why he never launched the party, despite collecting money to do it,” Wambugu added.

 

Wambugu’s remarks come against the backdrop of speculation and online debate hinting that the party launch was delayed by internal wrangles or logistical setbacks.

 

Wambugu and Gachagua were once in close working terms. Wambugu, who served as a communications strategist for Gachagua,

 

Over time, however, the two drifted apart due to differences in leadership style, strategy, and political vision particularly concerning Gachagua’s attempt to position the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) as the central political force in the Mt Kenya region.

 

Wambugu has since rejoined the Jubilee Party and is now openly critical of Gachagua’s approach.
