David Kipsang Keter has emerged victorious in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) primaries for the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary by-election, securing the party’s nomination ahead of the May 14 poll.

Keter won with 13,749 votes, narrowly edging out Bernard Kipkoech Ngeno, who garnered 13,394 votes, in a tightly contested exercise that drew significant attention due to the close results and high voter turnout.

Leaders who commented on the outcome lauded both candidates and the electorate for maintaining calm throughout the process.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen congratulated Keter, saying: “Hearty congratulations to David Keter on winning the hotly contested UDA nomination for Emurua Dikirr Constituency. Your patience, persistence, and resilience have finally paid off.”

He also praised Ngeno for his spirited campaign: “To Bernard Ng’eno, who came a close second, well done for putting up a spirited fight. You have demonstrated great strength and sportsmanship, and you undoubtedly have a bright future ahead.”

Murkomen commended residents of Emurua Dikirr for a peaceful voting process, describing the contest as unique.

“I commend the people of Emurua Dikirr for maintaining peace and turning out in large numbers to exercise their democratic right today. This was a truly unique contestone fought through music and poetry, day and night, in an atmosphere defined by peace and civility,” he said.

Nandi Senator Kiprotich Arap Cherargei also congratulated Keter, thanking residents for their orderly participation, and describing the nominations as “well coordinated, transparent and efficient.” Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya echoed the praise, commending both candidates and voters for a peaceful campaign.

Keter will now represent the UDA in the upcoming by-election, which was triggered by the death of former Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno in a helicopter crash on February 28, 2026.

The aircraft burst into flames on impact, with videos showing thick smoke rising from the wreckage.
