Kenya Power has announced scheduled electricity outages across several regions in the country on Thursday, August 28, 2025, to allow for maintenance and system upgrades.
The interruptions, expected to run between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in most areas, will affect parts of Nairobi, North Rift, Kiambu, Mombasa, Taita Taveta, and Kilifi counties.
In Nairobi, customers in sections of Mowlem and Umoja Three will experience outages throughout the day. Kenya Power said the exercise is necessary to enhance reliability of supply in the area.
“These interruptions are part of routine maintenance aimed at strengthening our network and minimizing unplanned outages in future,” Kenya Power stated.
In the North Rift region, parts of Trans Nzoia County, including Bikeke, Alakara, Nyakinywa, Maili Saba, Kapkoi, Moi’s Bridge, Kona Mbaya, Loreto, Nzoia and Matunda Hospital, will be affected.

Residents of Kiambu County in Tigoni, Loreto and Redhill will also be without power during the same hours.
Institutions and facilities such as Loreto Girls, Tigoni Hospital, Limuru Golf Club, St. Paul University and Redhill Heights are among those listed.
In the Coast region, the whole of Likoni in Mombasa County will be affected by a full-day outage.
Kenya Power also listed many hospitals, schools and businesses, including Bomu Hospital, Aga Khan, Diani Beach Hospital and Kenya Navy, among the institutions that will be impacted.
Further interruptions are scheduled in Taita Taveta County, where Taveta Town, Customs, Maktau and surrounding areas will be affected between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Mwatate residents will experience a shorter outage, ending at 2:00 p.m.
In Kilifi County, parts of Kikambala will be switched off for most of the day. Affected areas include Baharini, Kadzenzo, Vipingo Center, Palm Ridge, and Shariani Town.
Kenya Power urged customers in the affected regions to prepare accordingly.
“We request our customers to take necessary precautions and treat all electrical lines as live, even during the outage period,” the company said, noting that supply could be restored earlier than scheduled if works are completed ahead of plan.
