Political Activist Hanifa Adan to Undergo Ear Surgery After Public Appeal

Political activist Hanifa Adan is set to receive professional medical treatment for a severe ear condition that has progressively affected her hearing over the years.

Hanifa, who has been battling chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM), a long-term ear infection, took to social media platform X to appeal for help in finding a reputable Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist or hospital.

Her post quickly drew hundreds of responses from well-wishers and medical professionals offering advice and recommendations.

In a follow-up post, Hanifa confirmed that she had secured the care she needed.

“I have no words. Thank you all. So so much. Oozing with gratitude,” she wrote.

When asked about her appointment, she shared optimistically, “Yep, tomorrow morning insha Allah. Lazima booking kwanza.” (Yes, tomorrow morning, God willing. I just had to make a booking first.)

“Being able to finally speak openly about my progressive hearing loss and the challenges I’ve faced for years feels huge. This has been my biggest insecurity, and it’s shaped my life in so many ways,” Hanifa said.

While the upcoming surgery will not restore her hearing, it is expected to halt the infection and prevent further deterioration.

“Just knowing there’s a way forward has lifted such a weight off me,” she said.

She also revealed that she has begun learning sign language saying just in case she ever wakes up and don’t hear again.

“The community here has always come through for me. It felt like the right place to ask,” she shared.

She had previously struggled to find a hospital that could provide more than temporary relief.

Her posts highlighted both the physical and emotional toll of her condition, as well as the overwhelming support from the public.

“I woke up to hundreds of messages and comments and each one means the world to me.

I’ve saved all your recommendations and will be acting on them immediately,” she wrote, emphasizing the gratitude she feels toward those who assisted her.
