President William Ruto on Monday showered praise on National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, describing him as a steadfast ally and a trusted brother.
Speaking during the funeral of Ichung’wah’s father, Mzee Isaac Ichung’wah Ngugi, President Ruto said the Kikuyu MP had stood with him through difficult political battles.
“I want to thank the parents of Ichung’wah. Through them, I have gotten this man Kimani, who is more than a friend, I have gotten a brother,” the President said.
Ruto recounted the sacrifices made by Ichung’wah in his political journey, noting that the lawmaker had “taken many bullets” and “carried many burdens” on his behalf.
“I stand here in this hallowed and honoured ground to say in Kimani Ichung’wah, we have a great leader, without any fear of contradiction. The same way you have stood with me, I will stand by you,” he added.
The Head of State further lauded Ichung’wah’s influence beyond his constituency, saying his leadership was felt across the country.
“You must stand up to be counted for something. He is a friend indeed, and he gives us lessons,” he said.
President Ruto also eulogised Mzee Ichung’wah as a man of resilience and determination, who raised a well-respected family.
“Let us believe in ourselves the same way as Mzee Ichung’wah, who pushed the bounds and the limits. Today, we celebrate a great man,” he said.
Mzee Isaac Ichung’wah Ngugi, who passed away on September 5 at the age of 105, was laid to rest at his rural home in Kikuyu.
